Working Girl. 9-5. Etc.

29 Apr

So I got the job that I wanted, and am thankful. It was weird going back in to work full time today though, after being such a slacker. Although I wasn’t entirely a slacker as I kept pretty busy. But I wasn’t being paid to be kept busy. If you know what I mean. Anyway, on Friday they asked if I could start Monday, so there wasn’t a great deal of time to mentally adjust to the concept. Thankfully their office hours really are 9 – 5. So no early rising for me is necessary. Sweet.

Nice crew, very upbeat and positive environment. So different from some previous jobs. Helps that I’m not working with corrupt/gross/greedy government officials/people/companies (and if you’re someone I used to work with that is reading about this and think I’m talking about you, I’m probably not). The initial learning curve is something I never enjoy though – not knowing what you’re really supposed to be doing, having wrong expectations, trying to ask questions that will help you figure out the important stuff. I know it will all come together in a few weeks as it always does, but these initial days are normally just…awkward.

Things I already like…. 1) two block walk to work 2) working with people who really want to help their community 3) working with people who are very genuinely positive 4) work that is very practical. Hey, I actually think I might really be helping people who actually need help. Wow!

Now that I’m working full time, I don’t have as much time to devote to fun stuff, like cooking. Had to get back to meal planning, especially as I’m trying to be back in plant-based health kick mode. Tonight was marinated and grilled portobello mushrooms over curried brown rice salad and greens. Mmmm.

Easy, delicious, and soooo healthy. Everything is prepare ahead-able except for the mushroom grilling which takes about 10 minutes.

I just realized it’s nearly 11. Now that it is light outside later and later, I am having a hard keeping track of time. And now that I am a contributing member of the economy, I must get my beauty sleep. TTFN.
